• Dog Skin Allergies



    Different animal  respond to allergies in different ways, normally as a human being we sneeze but dogs has skin allergies as a response to the allergens.

    Different virus and bacteria which are suspended in air are the main reason for causing dog skin allergies. But the dog skin allergies can be avoided if the dogs are well maintained like washed and dried properly on daily basis and regular vaccination.

    Aloe Vera cream if applied to shaven areas prevents dog skin allergies to a significant extent. One need to observe the dog’s skin allergies very carefully with proper observation so that it is diagnosed correctly and treatment can be effective.

    The nutritional dermatitis occurs when dogs are fed with poor quality of diet and in turn causes dog skin allergy which can be reduced by proper nutritious and balanced diet.

    The bacteria staphylococci causing dog skin allergies resulting in yellow patches, hair loss and skin turn red and ulcerated. The disease is termed as “Pyoderma” and mainly occurs under the chin, skin folds like in face.

    This type of dog skin allergies can be cured if the dog is washed with antibiotic shampoo containing benzoyl peroxide and after that applying antibiotic cream in the affected areas.

    Fungal dog skin allergies like “Ringworm” are normally caused by two types of fungi namely, Microsporum and Trichophyton. These funguses are found in dead skin tissues, hairs and nails, head and legs of dog. The allergy takes the form of circular patches with dry crusty centre. This type of dog skin allergy can be cured if the dog is bathed by fungicidal shampoo and the hair around the infected area is to be clipped so that infection doesn’t spread any further.

    Dog skin allergies can also be detected if there is an itchy skin, eye discharge or there is problem in digestion. Flea saliva is the dog skin allergy that occurs in certain season and results in itchy skin. This kind of dog skin allergy can be found in face, chest and abdominal portion of the dog.

    Dog skin allergies caused by dust, pollen grains are also common and allergy is termed as “Atopy”. These allergies mainly concentrate on abdomen and bottom portion where there is less hair.

    To prevent dog skin allergies developed due to flea dogs are given corticosteroid tablets which destroys flea present on the dog’s body and relief from itching.

    In addition to the allergies caused by fungi bacteria and fungus one more dog skin allergy is caused by mite that is called “Mange”. The dog skin allergy called mange are of two types, first one “Sarcoptic manage” that affects mainly in the ears, chest and forelegs resulting in loss of hair with crusty surface. The second one “Demodectic mange” results in red circular patches with scaly surface appearing on the skin. The irritation caused by this dog skin allergy sometimes leads to harm of the dog by the dog itself.

    The parasites causing this kind of dog skin allergy can be killed by using antimite dips flea collars, sprays, antiallergic powders, medicines like cephalexin, clindamycin, clotrimazole, enrofloxacin otic, gentamicin sulfate.

    Special care of dogs should be taken to prevent the dog skin allergy and have a healthy and energetic pet.
